Every drop count

Awarded in a global light art competition, this piece will be installed in the Living Water Garden located in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China. As the world's first urban ecological park with water as its main theme, this internationally acclaimed park serves as an educational center, a sanctuary for wildlife and plants, and a great place for people to visit. Since its completion in 1998, it has become the most popular park in the city. This marks the first permanent light sculpture by a Thai lighting designer and will be exhibited to visitors in September 2022.Design Concept: If one drop of water every second equals 0.5 ml, forgetting to turn off the tap for one hour would result in 30 ml of wasted water. What happens if you forget to turn off the tap overnight, say for 6 hours? That would equal 21,600 ml or approximately 91 glasses of water. The purpose of this calculation is to show that every drop counts. The water you waste can accumulate to a significant amount. Moreover, not turning off the tap tightly enough is just one of the things people often overlook. You might be using water and forget to check if the tap is closed tightly, leading to significant water loss.This project conveys the message that the smallest actions you take can have the greatest impact on water conservation. Inspired by daily events, using just a single drop of water from the tap highlights the importance of water. Sometimes people forget to turn off the tap, which is a major issue. This light sculpture aims to raise awareness about water conservation, encouraging people to enjoy the visual and auditory experience of flowing water and to share their experiences. When visitors approach the light sculpture, the lights will mimic the movement of water flowing from a tap. The lighting will simulate the flow of water, with fish swimming at the base, creating an impressive and refreshing experience for all.
